New Lake Superior Poetry Anthology Open for Submissions

A CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for a POETRY ANTHOLOGY that CELEBRATES LAKE SUPERIOR

Raymond Luczak, a Yooper native (from Ironwood and Houghton) and author or editor of 40 books, is seeking new work for a new poetry anthology focusing on Lake Superior, which Modern History Press (MHP) will publish in the summer of 2026. MHP has published 28 books about the Upper Peninsula (U.P.), in all genres, since 2017 and is becoming known as a powerhouse press in the region.

Luczak’s own canon includes Compassion, Michigan: The Ironwood Stories, Chlorophyll: Poems about Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and autobiographical works about growing up in the U.P. with titles such as Ironhood, Assembly Required, and once upon a twin.  His Yooper Poetry Series has received critical acclaim, including coverage on Michigan Public Radio and winning the 2026 U.P. Notable Book List.

  • Anyone who has experienced Lake Superior is welcome to submit. (This includes Canadians.)
  • Submit new poems of any length up to ten pages. Reprints may be considered with their proper credits noted with such poems, but new work would always be preferred.
  • The submission should be in a Word-compatible file (.rtf, .doc, or .docx). No PDFs, please.
  • Include a bio of up to 100 words.
  • Deadline is April 30, 2026. Additional consideration will be given to poems that arrive prior to deadline. These early submitters will receive notice well in advance of the deadline.
  • Accepted poets will receive two contributor’s copies in paperback with the option to purchase unlimited copies at half-off Suggested Retail Price. A pro forma Contributors Agreement will be completed by all accepted poets.
  • Accepted works will be made available in paperback, hardcover, eBook, and audiobook editions worldwide. The publisher will provide copies to the U.P. library system as well.

Submissions and questions should be addressed directly to the collection’s editor, Raymond Luczak, at yooperpoetry@gmail.com.
